Consistency Tips?

Tue Jun 23, 2009, 3:57 PM
How do you artist out there go about making one character look like the same character over hundreds of drawings?!

I've been drawing Aonice for 5 years, and about a third or more of those drawings don't look like her! Do you guys have any tips for me on fixing this wierd lil quirk?

  • Mood: Neutral
  • Listening to: The Jet Engine that is my Xbox.
  • Reading: I don't read!
  • Watching: Hundreds of Deviants!

also keeping the same makeup, eye color, lip shape, face porpotions, .. but your doing a good job. :)

you could try looking at the previous drawings of her when drawing a new picture of her, also memorizing her features, give her spicific unique features so she will be easliy reconizable.. and keeping it the same each time. like a certian jaw, a certian eye lash.. being unique and keeping it that way.. her eye shape and nose.. i think your aonice pictures do look like the same charater tho. gud job. but coloring them and keeping the same hair and skin color would also help to. :)

Oh well, i'm very picky about Aonice's features, she actually does have a particular eyeshape, jawline, eyebrow, nose, all that stuff.. Though sometimes you can toss all those features on somebody and they still look different xD

oh ok. she still looks good tho. :)

Well, I'm no artist, but I see a lot of people using reference sheets, where they draw the character from different views (usually front, back, side), and usually put a color key with spots of color with labels for what part of the character uses that color. If you look up 'reference sheet' or 'character reference' and such in the DA search thing you can see some examples of that sort of thing.

Well,it all goes with the way you draw.People's skills change as they get better, resulting in different looks.Practicing the same character many times in different poses and clothing should help you keep consistency. Also, some characters are so variable they look different by turning to another side.:For instance Aonice's hair and hairstyle.Hope this helps.

Aonice's hair style often changes with my mood xD But i suppose i just needa come up with a charactersheet on paper.

Interesting.Still I think that her head, face, and hairstyle should be modeled after "out of breath".
